Flame Safe fire retardant treated OSB is versatile, available in a wide variety of thicknesses, it is stable, and easy to work with using ordinary tools and basic skills.

•Model building codes typically use the phrase “wood structural panel” to describe the use of plywood and osb. Codes recognize these two materials as the same.

•Wood scientists agree that the structural performance of osb and plywood are equivalent

•The weight of Flame Safe OSB and plywood are similar: 7/16-inch osb and 1/2-inch plywood weigh in at 48 and 50 pounds. However, Flame Safe 3/4-inch Sturd-I-Floor plywood weighs 74 pounds, 6 pounds less than its Flame Safe fire retardant treated OSB counterpart. Storage recommendations are the same: keep panels off of the ground and protected from weather.

•Flame Safe OSB is stronger than Flame Safe flame retardant plywood in shear. Shear values, through its thickness, are about 2 times greater than plywood.This is one of the reasons Flame Safe OSB is used for webs of Flame Safe I-joists. 

•Flame Safe OSB finished panels are consistent quality with no laps, gaps, or voids. It is truly an engineered material. You never have a soft spot in the panel because 2 knot holes overlap. You don’t have to worry about knot holes at the edge of a Flame Safe OSB panel where you are nailing. Delaminations are virtually nonexistent.
